Cambridge, Ontario’s Greber do things a bit differently from most bands. The duo, featuring Marc Bourgon of Fuck the Facts and Steve Vargas of The Great Sabatini, keep it stripped-down to a drums-and-bass combo, sans guitar player – who needs ’em, right? Greber obviously don’t because the result of these two super talented musicians together is some pretty crushing sludge- and doom-filled crusty grind. Their latest offering comes in the form of a split seven-inch with New Brunswick’s Anthesis, which is set for release on May 17 and features two new tracks from Greber. They’ll also be heading out on the road shortly, joined by Anthesis for a few dates, but before they do so, Bourgon and Vargas took the time for an interview with Svbterranean. They discuss their unique lineup, the new split and the kinds of bands they’re influenced by, as well as their lyrical approach, how Greber compares to their other bands and more. Continue Reading

Grounded in hardcore punk and merged with metal, powerviolence and grindcore, the 2007-born Nails exist to brutalize listeners on a single frequency: all hard, all heavy, all the time. With a complete lack of pretense and a singular primitive vision, Nails deal solely in scalding aggression, intentionally melding only the most vicious elements of each extreme music genre into a lean, pummeling concoction all their own. The result? An aural poisonous kool-aid unique in tone, composition and attack that has been consumed and hailed by extreme music fans and metal legends the world over. This June will bring forth You Will Never Be One Of Us, the third full length installment and Nuclear Blast Records debut from the group. I recently had the chance to chat with frontman Todd Jones about the new album, genre and identity, his career in hardcore, Slayer and more. Check it all out below. You Will Never Be One Of Us arrives on CD, cassette, vinyl and digital download this June 17th via Nuclear Blast Records. Continue Reading
Progressive thrash metallers Vektor have premiered their new album, Terminal Redux, over at Brooklyn Vegan. The album is officially out today via Earache Records and can be purchased at this location. It’s been five years since their last full-length offering and it appears that Vektor have been perfecting their highly complex black metal tinged, interstellar thrash sound during that gap. Terminal Redux is a destructive, forward-thinking and exploratory record. Check it out in full after the break.
Hesitation Wounds (Touche Amore, ex-Trap Them, etc) have premiered a new track from their upcoming debut LP, Awake for Everything, at Kerrang. The new single is titled “Operatic” and it splices together darkened, sludgy grooves with scathing hardcore assaults. It provides plenty of beatings in its short two-minute duration. Check out the track after the break.
Awake for Everything will be released on May 27 via 6131 Records.
Massachusetts doomsayers Conclave (Grief, Disrupt, etc) have premiered a new track from their upcoming album, Sins of the Elders, at CVLT Nation. Tilted “Aethereum”, the new track stomps like Polyphemus across eight minutes of thunderous doom and gloom. The band said the following of the track:
“‘Aethereum’ was written in minor keys with a feeling of darkness in tribute to the great forefathers of doom that paved the road before us. The lyrical concept is that of falling through space, time and all ethereal planes. It brought forth thoughts of the infinite vastness of space, the extremes of temperature, light and sound or absence thereof. Other parallels were drawn from the stories of World War II naval convoys traveling to Murmansk and the conditions those soldiers lived and died under. Hell is real and it extends beyond Earth and throughout the cosmos.”
Check out the track after the break.
Sins of the Elders will be released on June 10.
Florida post-hardcore/screamo outfit Frameworks have announced the release of their sophomore full-length record and follow-up to 2014’s Loom. The new effort will be titled Smother and will be released on July 8 via Deathwish Inc. Smother was recorded earlier this year by Matt McClellan (Being As An Ocean, O’ Brother, etc) at Glow In The Dark Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright (Converge, Self Defense Family, etc) at Audiosiege Mastering. The band have shared the album’s first single”Tangled” via Stereogum and it can also be streamed after the break. Vocalist Luke Pate commented on the song:
Californian multi-instrumentalists Wreck and Reference have announced the release of their third full-length album and follow-up to 2014’s Want. The record will be titled Indifferent Rivers Romance End and will be released on July 22 via The Flenser. The record was recorded by the band and mixed/mastered with Samur Khouja (Joanna Newsom, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony) in Los Angeles, CA earlier this year, and will feature 10 new tracks clocking in at 44 minutes in length. The band further explore the more electronic and melodic sounds touched upon on Want while retaining their dreariness on this new effort.
The album’s artwork and track listing can be found after the break along with a stream of the new track, “The Clearing”.
